NAWIC Testimonial to Membership Value

It gives me pleasure to be able to share my experience in what I consider a blessing to have NAWIC as a great resource. I was originally initiated as a member of NAWIC in 2001 with a company where I started my career in the construction industry. I had the opportunity to meet so many women through this group, not realizing how vital this group would be for my future.
During the economic downturn in 2008, my membership was discontinued and I was looking for a career change. I had become close to whom I call my angel mentor, Donna Castaneda. Even though I no longer was a member of NAWIC, Donna continued to mentor me not only with my career but in my life as well. When I came to her with my concerns and plans she gave me such great advice.
Donna was kind enough to offer to send out my resume to all the contacts in her NAWIC connections. I quickly landed interviews with several prospective companies. Following employment from this connection, circumstances found me with a second career change later. I was somewhat hesitant to contact Donna to send out my resume again. Thankfully…… fate had my back.
In January of 2013, I received a phone call from my current employer, Mike Wells. He was in the Santa Maria Valley Contractors Association office speaking with Executive Director Robin Hayhurst. She recalled seeing my resume sent out by Donna plus remembered me from our monthly NAWIC Meetings. She recommended me to fill his open position and I have been working with his company, Mid-Land Sheet Metal, Inc. ever since!
I am living proof that my association with NAWIC has enhanced my career. It has renewed my passion for what I can learn from NAWIC and what NAWIC does to give back to the community. I am so thankful to know each and every one of my fellow NAWIC sisters.
